9 More Victims of Air Crash Identified
Nine more victims from Alaska Airlines Flight 261 were identified Friday, bringing to 35 the number of people named so far.
The Ventura County medical examiner, for the first time during the investigation, used anthropology exams to identify victims of the Jan. 31 crash by studying their body size, gender, age and unique features, said spokeswoman Julie Frey.
No new human remains have been collected since Monday and Frey said it is difficult to say when more victims will be identified.
“It’s really a day-to-day situation,” she said.
Victims’ identities are announced only after relatives are notified in person, Frey said.
The victims identified Friday include Ryan Busche, 28, Avinesh Deo, 23, Rodney Pearson, 45, and Thomas Stockley Jr., 63, all of Seattle, Wash.; Kenneth Forshee, 47, of Benicia, Calif.; Aloysius Han, 73, of Oakland, Calif.; Juan Marquez, 53, of San Francisco; Donald Shaw, 63, of Olympia, Wash.; and Bob Williams, 64, of Poulsbo, Wash.
Biopsies are being collected at the morgue in the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme for possible DNA testing that will be handled by the National Transportation Safety Board, Frey said.
