Eileen Davis and Izzie Greenberg celebrated Valentine’s Day in fashion.

Dressed in a black suit and tie, Greenberg escorted Davis, clad in a lavender evening dress with a flowing skirt and matching boa, through a packed auditorium.

About 200 elderly men and women, most of them in wheelchairs, applauded loudly as the couple strutted down the aisle showing off their threads.

Davis, 86, and Greenberg, 85, were among the dozens of participants in the Heart to Heart fashion and variety show Monday at the Jewish Home for the Aging’s Grancell Village.

“I’ll have you know that every night he comes to dinner with a suit and tie,” Davis said of Greenberg, her boyfriend of six weeks. “He didn’t just dress up for this show.”

The fashion show featured mostly women, aided by canes and walkers, showing off clothes donated by local merchants.

Elsie Schaffer walked down the aisle twice, first in a bright red skirt outfit with a matching hat and later in a purple knit dress and colorful scarf.

“This is so much fun,” Schaffer, 92, said. “It reminds me of my youth.”

Singing and dancing followed the show and punch and cookies were served throughout. The auditorium was festively decorated with dozens of red and white balloons.

“We created this show because everyone, regardless of age, wears clothes and everyone has a desire to look beautiful,” said Gwendolyn Walls, activity director at Grancell Village. “This is a great opportunity to build self-esteem.”
