The City Council changed the city code this week to allow the installation of 75-foot-tall antenna towers on residential properties by licensed amateur radio operators. The city had prohibited towers of such height, but members of the Placentia Radio Amateur Emergency Services asked that the law be changed because it hindered their activities.
The amendment added the definition of “amateur radio towers” into the city code and permitted the installation of antennas of up to 75 feet when extended, provided the retracted height is no more than 6 feet above the maximum allowable height of a building in that particular zoning district.
