A Very Telling Problem

Share

I am writing to express my disdain for Don Braunagel’s review of “The Weir” (“ ‘The Weir’s’ Irish Pub Mates Make for Flavorful Characters,” Feb. 8). It completely and totally gives away every bit of suspense that this beautiful play holds.

I thought the whole point of ghost stories (essentially what this play is) was to build suspense and then shock the listeners with a startling ending. But I must be wrong, because obviously Braunagel didn’t want anyone who read his review to have any of that when they went to see this production.

I have read the play and know of the spine-tingling suspense it can evoke, yet when I went to read the review to a friend whom I planned on taking to the play, I had to stop reading before I gave away all the surprises to her!

I hope that Braunagel can learn to not give away everything when reviewing future productions!
