Dark Days for Knight Again

Share

The decision by Coach Steve Lavin to search for a new lineup combination has left Billy Knight searching for playing time.

Knight has gone from the starter in three consecutive games to out of the rotation in four games since, dropping from a prominent role to the fifth guard.

The sophomore swingman played only four minutes against USC in his return to a reserve role and then four minutes at Syracuse, both close games. In last week’s blowouts, Knight got garbage time, nine minutes at Arizona State, all but about 30 seconds of which came in the second half, and seven minutes at Arizona, all in the second half.

“It’s real tough,” he said. “I got a little frustrated, but I always kept faith in myself. My dad told me just to stay in there and keep working hard in practice.”

The payoff at Arizona was capitalizing on the brief role. Knight scored 14 points in the seven minutes, making five of eight shots, including three of five three-pointers. He also had two steals and two assists.
