The Fullerton Community Services Department was recently awarded a $200,000 grant by the state Department of Parks and Recreation for development of the Union Pacific recreation trail.

Susan Hunt, director of the Fullerton Community Services Department, said the master plan would involve Union Pacific railroad property that stretches from the city’s Independence Park, at 801 Valencia Drive, to the Transportation Center on Santa Fe and Harbor Boulevard.

The construction cost of the project is estimated at $1.2 million. Hunt said she hopes work can begin this summer.
