Residents of Capistrano Valley Mobile Estates hope a certain kind of home improvement doesn’t get too close to their neighborhood.

“We know we are going to get a neighbor, but we do not want Home Depot,” said resident Jack Heath, who is the spokesman for the mobile home park on Avenida Aeropuerto.

The home improvement giant wants to open a 105,000-square-foot store with a 25,000-square-foot garden center near Stonehill Drive and Camino Capistrano.

Heath believes the store would create excessive noise from delivery trucks and lumber cutting, cut off natural breezes and open-space access, create too much lighting at night from its 800-space parking lot and pollute the neighborhood with diesel fumes.

Councilman David M. Swerdlin said the council will not consider Home Depot’s proposal unless changes are made to address those concerns.

Home Depot representatives were unavailable for comment Friday.
