Street Trees

Re “Tree Roots,” Dec. 2, and “Problems With Street Trees,” Dec. 6.
It is truly unforgivable for the city to continue to demand that its citizens pay for repairs to broken sewer lines and sidewalks that are caused by trees the city selected and planted in the first place.
The City Council needs to reassess its priorities. We want money budgeted for these services. We don’t want to hear any more excuses about why we are 17 years behind our own tree-trimming schedule. And we don’t want to be told that our trees can only be trimmed every 14 years or so, but that it is against the law for us to remove a dangerous branch.
It is time for the council to bite the bullet and provide funding for tree trimming, root control and sidewalk repairs.
