Population Growth

Share

Your Dec. 27 editorial on population and family planning in Mexico was excellent. A portion of Mexico’s population decline has been a result of 264,000 people moving from Mexico to the U.S. annually, according to the Mexican National Population Council. In California 57% of all teenage pregnancies are to women who are foreign-born.

During the last 30 years, the population of California has doubled and is projected to double again in less than 30 years. The U.S. government should continue funding the excellent family planning program in Mexico and, at the same time, work toward achieving long-range population stabilization in the United States.
