Re “State Begins Accepting Gays’ Domestic Partner Sign-Ups,” Jan. 4: As a lesbian who has seen how cruel and hateful right-wing Christians can be, I will avoid being on a “list” that separates us from others. Will this list be something that someone with a sick mind who hates us can get ahold of? And if so, now they have access to every gay and lesbian who registers.

I wish so badly that my (consenting, adult) wife and I could marry, so that we can have the same respect and benefits as heterosexual married couples, not only for us but also for our (heterosexual) daughter. Our love is strong and we will survive the struggles that we have due to the fact that most of America feels uncomfortable about our love. Our church allows us to marry, but not the government. If we could legally marry and not be on a separate list we would do it in a heartbeat. But we refuse to be put on the “Hitler” list.
