CEO Van der Kaay Becomes Datum’s Chairman

* Erik van der Kaay, 59, president and chief executive of Irvine-based Datum Inc., has been named to the additional position of chairman. He succeeds Louis Horwitz, who is retiring but will remain a director. Van der Kaay succeeded Horwitz as president and chief executive in April 1998. Horwitz had run the company since 1986. Datum makes synchronization and timing systems. The stock closed Monday at $12.25, down $1.25 a share, or 9.3%. (Dow Jones)

* PairGain Technologies Inc. said Charles McBrayer is retiring in April as chief financial officer and will be succeeded by corporate controller Robert Price. McBrayer will remain with the company through the transition period. Price joined Tustin-based PairGain in September 1995 as corporate controller and was promoted to vice president and corporate controller in January 1998. He has more than 25 years of corporate finance and accounting management experience. PairGain makes high-speed data transmission products. (Reuters)

* Richard N. Rasmus has joined Flashcom Inc. in Huntington Beach as president and chief operating officer. Brad Sachs will continue to serve as chief executive and also becomes chairman. Rasmus had been vice president of Comcast Corp.’s Online division.

* Lee Stogner has been elected vice president of professional activities for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. He is director of system integration for Fluor Global Services.

* Tom Redwitz has been named senior vice president and regional manager for Southern California for Taylor Woodrow Homes Inc. in Laguna Hills. Before joining the company more than three years ago, he was vice president, development and entitlement at the Irvine Co. Before that, Redwitz was a co-founder and principal of Inland Pacific Communities.

* Thomas W. Glasgow Jr. has joined the board of directors of ZLand.com in Aliso Viejo. He had been executive vice president and chief operations officer in charge of restaurant systems worldwide when he retired from McDonald’s Corp. in 1998.

* Wendy Reid has been named major account service manager for Golden West Financial Services in Costa Mesa. She was formerly a fleet manager with Golden West’s auto leasing division.

* Jon Belzer has been appointed vice president of marketing for firstsource.com in Santa Ana. He was previously director of client services in Beijing for Ogilvy & Mather (China). Before that, he was a senior manager at Meredith Corp.

* Steven Plutt has been appointed executive vice president of sales for Go2 Systems in Irvine. He succeeds Robert Groux, who was named executive vice president of business development and marketing. Plutt previously managed national sales and operations at SBC Communications.

* Michael Pachuta has been appointed account executive of Lages & Associates, an Irvine public relations and marketing communications firm. He had been a business reporter for Investor’s Business Daily in Los Angeles for the past four years.

* Mark S. Bloom has joined Perigon Medical Distribution Corp. as corporate controller. He succeeds Wayne Tyo, who becomes director, finance. Bloom was formerly a vice president for the mail order pharmacy division of Sun Healthcare Group in Albuquerque.
