Share

Discussions on how broadband Internet access and interactive television are expected to evolve during the next decade will be the highlight of a three-day conference on emerging communications technologies beginning today in Anaheim. The conference, sponsored by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers, is expected to draw 1,800 people and feature Henry Nicholas, co-founder, co-chairman, president and chief executive of Broadcom Corp., as keynote speaker. Irvine-based Broadcom manufactures microelectronics for digital cable TV, cable data modems and data networking. Its stock has risen more than twentyfold since it went public in April 1998. Nicholas’ speech has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Disneyland Hotel, the site of the conference. The event has scheduled discussion sessions on such topics as bridging the gap between the Internet and broadcast TV, and designing TV/Internet hookups. The conference is to run through Thursday.
