Reacting to an exodus of top executives, Ingram Micro Inc. on Tuesday announced a sweeping series of changes and additions to its top U.S. and overall corporate management team.

The world’s largest computer distributor, which has seen three high-level executives leave the Santa Ana company in the past four months, said it took the following steps to beef up its top executive ranks.

* Guy P. Abramo, the company’s 38-year-old interim chief information officer, was named to the post on a permanent basis and will head the company’s worldwide information technology group.

* Patrick T. Collins, 39, who was regional general manager of sales at Frito-Lay Corp., has been named senior vice president of sales of Ingram Micro U.S.

* Larry C. Boyd, 47, a partner in the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, joined Ingram as senior vice president of Ingram Micro U.S. legal services.

* Jerry A. Lumpkin, 42, was promoted from senior vice president of product management to the new position of senior vice president of marketing for Ingram Micro U.S.

* Al E. Mann, 43, Ingram’s senior vice president of product management, will head up the company’s entire U.S. product management division.

* Cynthia A. McGuire, 49, was promoted to vice president of human resources for Ingram Micro’s U.S. operations.

In some cases, officials say, the changes have come about because of retirement and job consolidations. Collins, for instance, will replace two senior vice presidents, Lisa Balash-Baker, 33, and Debbie E. Tibey, 40, both of whom are retiring, officials said. Neither woman could be reached for comment Tuesday.

In other cases, such as Boyd, the change reflects Ingram’s overall desire to bolster its internal lineup.

“For the past four reported quarters, the [U.S.] group has become a $16-billion company, and it deserves its own legal support,” company spokeswoman Kimmerly Strohm said. “It had been sharing resources from Ingram’s [overall] corporate group.”
