18 Coal Miners Rescued in China After 6 Days
Chinese emergency workers succeeded Sunday in rescuing 18 of 29 coal miners trapped for six days deep underground in a collapsed mine shaft, state media and local officials said.
Three of the 29 men were found dead, and eight others are still missing, bringing the death toll in the disaster to at least 14, the New China News Agency said.
Rescue workers had managed to provide the trapped miners with oxygen and a nutritional liquid.
The mine, operated by Xuzhou Coal Mine Group in Jiangsu, collapsed Tuesday in a flood. Eleven men were killed and twenty-three were pulled out the next day.
