Long Workweek

While I am sympathetic to the low pay teachers receive compared to other professionals, I feel I must respond to a Jan. 13 letter regarding the time teachers put in on their work. My job requires 50, 60 or more hours each and every week, all year long. Many professionals have to work longer than the 40-hour workweek we use as a standard. Some holiday time is occasionally sacrificed and there is no overtime pay. This is a fact of professional life and in no way peculiar to the teaching profession.
