On Schools, on Location

The next time I hear teachers complain they do not have enough time to teach and that is why the children’s test scores are so low, I will gladly wave Geoff Boucher’s “New Kid on the Block” article under their noses (Jan. 15).

Since when does the school system become an entertainment venue? Is this what our tax dollars fund? Now you know why home schooling is on the rise: We want an academic education, not silly entertainment.

P.S.: When is Sammie schooling?

Boucher describes Duarte as a “hardscrabble city near the edge of a vast rock quarry.” What bothers me more than his insult to our city is the fact that he is obviously an armchair journalist writing about places he has never been.

Boucher should visit Duarte and experience the bike trails, parks, museum, hiking trails, senior center, teen center, fitness center, city government offices, City of Hope . . . and on and on.
