Before traveling to Washington next week to lobby against the proposed El Toro airport, Orange County Supervisor Tom Wilson stopped in Leisure World on Wednesday to rally the project’s opponents.
Mayor Bert Hack and Golden Rain Foundation President Bob Ring also participated in the open meeting, which revolved around the Millennium Plan, an alternative proposal that would turn the former Marine Corps base into a cultural center.
“We’re old people who can’t breathe this [soot] in,” said Belle Price, an 11-year resident of Leisure World. “Do they want to kill us? We all came here to retire and now they’re ready to kill us off.”
