From Times Wire Reports

Former dictator Augusto Pinochet is not above the law in Chile and could be stripped of immunity from prosecution, Senate President Andres Zaldivar said. The elder statesman, who has historically been sympathetic to the retired general, said he couldn’t predict whether Chile’s top courts would annul Pinochet’s parliamentary immunity if he returned home. Pinochet was sworn in as a senator for life in 1998, a position that gave him immunity. Britain has said Pinochet, 84, is medically unfit to face trial on torture charges. A British judge said he will rule Monday on whether human rights groups can go to court to seek access to the medical tests that prompted Britain’s decision on Pinochet’s health.
