Lions Club Foundation Honors Camarillo Man

* Richard Baker of Camarillo was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation “in recognition of his commitment to serving the world community.” Baker is a member of the Camarillo-Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club.

Group Receives Grant for Work With Youths

* The Higgy Foundation received a $10,000 grant from the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation for its youth programs in Santa Paula and Fillmore. The foundation works with youths in families, schools, churches and public and private agencies.

2 Oxnard Residents Given Service Awards

* California Parks and Recreation Society District VIII has recognized two Oxnard residents as part of its 1999 Community Service Awards. Marie Briggs, who works in the Risk Management Department, and Police Officer Manuel Vega were “recognized for their contributions to the Oxnard community.”
