One Reader’s Solution to Storage-Space Woes

Share

As a former kitchen designer and builder, I was interested in Katherine Salant’s Jan. 16 article “New Solutions to an Old Problem in the Kitchen: Storage,” especially the discussion of blind corner storage.

Inspired by a late-night commercial I saw in the mid-’80s demonstrating the Hafele product mentioned in Salant’s article, I figured out how to build a corner storage unit with standard materials--plywood, drawer rollers, under-mount drawer slides and a pivot mechanism.

Though there are special-purpose pivots available now, I made my first version with a carriage bolt for a pivot, and it’s still working fine.

Building one should be within the abilities of a careful do-it-yourselfer.
