Six police officers and three 911 dispatchers will face disciplinary action for failing to do their jobs during a series of attacks on women in Central Park last month, the city’s police commissioner said Monday.

In addition, six commanding officers have either been sent or will receive written reprimands for their mistakes during the June 11 attacks, which followed New York’s annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.

In detailing results of the internal investigation, Police Commissioner Howard Safir said he felt “very personally responsible” for the attacks. Six of 59 alleged victims have claimed officers ignored their pleas for help.

During the attacks, some women were doused with water, while others have said they were stripped and groped. Some were robbed. Among the victims were a 14-year-old girl, three British tourists and a French couple on their honeymoon.

As of Monday, 29 teenage boys and men have been arrested.

An attorney for one of the victims, Anne Peyton Bryant, criticized Safir for doing too little in disciplining the officers. “I don’t know how a letter of instruction makes any woman in this city feel any safer,” lawyer Susan Karten said.
