Food for Thought About Tyson’s Words

Share

Last week, you printed three letters about Mike Tyson. Two intimated that he was out of control and questioned his mental suitability to continue in professional boxing. The third one appeared to be racist in playing upon Tyson’s remarks to eat children to gratuitously attack George Foreman and his family.

I suggest that Tyson be given a break. His remarks do not violate any laws. Possibly they are simply hype to attract attention to a future match with Lennox Lewis and to instill fear in Lewis. Bobby Knight, an educator at a fine university, had been allowed for years with impunity to do his thing. Let’s not attack Tyson’s free-speech rights by challenging his right to earn a living as a professional boxer.
