For an RV Gypsy, It’s All About a Carefree Ride

As an avid RVer, I applaud some of the ideas in “Not Your Grandpa’s Airstream: Old Trailer Gets New Look” (June 20). Clean-lined interiors utilizing contemporary materials are still in short supply, and although some manufacturers are using laminate kitchen counter tops and building in computer centers, many of us would like to see even more modern furniture and casual fabrics to take on the road.

But when designer Christopher C. Deam referred to “taking your grandmother’s kitchen with you,” I wonder how many contemporary RV kitchens with their microwaves, ice makers, sliding-door pantries and water purifiers he looked into.

As for the statement that no one seemed to mind that his 20-foot trailer had no room for a bath, I’m curious how many experienced RVers he polled. For most of us, traveling with our own bathroom and sleeping in our own beds rank right up there with flexibility and control as the primary attractions of RVing.
