What’s happening the next few weeks:

* “The Ebsworth Collection: 20th Century American Art,” a cross-section of 70 American paintings from the World War I era through the 1960s, will be on view at the Seattle Art Museum, Aug. 10 through Nov. 12. Curated by the National Gallery of Art, the show includes work by Alexander Calder, Willem de Kooning, Arthur Dove, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, Wayne Thiebaud and Georgia O’Keeffe. 100 University St. (206) 654-3100.

* Bumbershoot, the 30th annual music and art festival, is Sept. 1-4 at Seattle Center. Special events this year include a turntablist competition Sept. 2, the One-Reel Film Festival on Sept. 3, and performances by Ani DiFranco, Ben Harper, Eric Bogosian, Mark Isham, Sandra Bernhard and Zap Mama. $12 to $16 per day; $40 to $44 for four-day pass. * Seattle Opera’s first two operas of the 2000-2001 season, “Das Rheingold” and “Die Walkure,” introduce part of the company’s new production of Wagner’s “Ring des Nibelungen.” The full four-opera cycle will premiere in next summer. “Das Rheingold” runs Aug. 4, 11 and 18. “Die Walkure” runs Aug. 5, 8, 13, 16, 19, 22 and 25.
