The Angels’ Darin Erstad entered the All-Star break with 1.655 hits per game and is on pace--if he plays each remaining game--for 266 hits, which would break the major league record of 257 set by the St. Louis Browns’ George Sisler in 1920. Erstad’s 144 hits are the most in the American League before the All-Star break, and also the most since Ralph Garr’s 149 hits with the Atlanta Braves in 1974. (Garr finished with 214).
