Semtech Corp., which makes technology equipment for the communications, computer and video industries, will move its headquarters from Newbury Park to Camarillo.

The company will move to an 86,000-square-foot building on Flynn Road, which is expected to open next year, said company spokeswoman Lori Posey.

Semtech’s new offices could add up to 400 jobs in Camarillo, already a burgeoning center for high-tech employment, said Jim Jevens, Camarillo’s economic developer.

Based in Newbury Park, the 40-year-old company has been growing rapidly, reporting $57.4 million in sales for the first quarter of fiscal year 2001, an increase of 74% over the previous year.

The company has manufacturing facilities in Texas, Mexico and Scotland, and the Flynn Road headquarters will also be a production site.

Semtech has more than 700 employees worldwide and about 210 in Newbury Park.

After the move to Camarillo, Posey said the number of local employees could exceed nearly600.

The so-called 101 Corridor along the Ventura Freeway is home to 500 high-tech companies.
