Johnson Remains Hospitalized

For Davey Johnson, no new news Tuesday was good news for the Dodger manager.

Johnson remained in the Tommy Lasorda Heart Institute at Centinela Hospital after experiencing dizziness and an irregular heart rhythm Sunday morning.

“Davey Johnson is doing well and undergoing further tests today,” team physician Dr. Michael Mellman said in a statement. “He remains in good spirits and in good health.”

Watches? Gary Sheffield doesn’t need no stinkin’ watches.

The Dodger left fielder, who will receive another engraved and specially designed Bulova for being named National League player of the week for the second time this season, would rather the Dodgers get on a hot streak than he continue to pile on the personal honors.

“It’s nothing against the awards, since I’ve been in those situations before,” said Sheffield, a six-time NL player of the week who hit his major league-leading 32nd home run Monday night. “It’s just that when they happen the focus turns on [how well] I’m playing.”

He said his positive publicity can turn into a negative vibe for the rest of the team, especially if the team is struggling.

Injured utility player Geronimo Berroa, who has been on the disabled list because of a broken left foot since June 3, will test the foot Thursday.

“It’s feeling better, but it’s feeling weak,” said Berroa, who broke the foot fouling a ball off it. “I don’t feel any power in it to run on it or whatever.”
