“Gilbert and Sullivan at the Mayflower” will return to the North Hollywood venue for two performances this weekend. The show features 26 songs from 11 of the comic operettas by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Produced and directed by Kate Springthorpe, the show features musical sequences interlaced with original scenes that illuminate the life and times of the famous Victorian-era composing duo.

Rock

The World Classic Rockers, a band featuring former members of several top rock acts of the last 30 years, will play Sunday in Santa Clarita. Bands represented include the Eagles, Wings, Toto, Foreigner and Steppenwolf. But most prominent in this 10-member troupe are Spencer Davis, Randy Meisner and Denny Laine. The Spencer Davis Group hit the top 10 twice in 1967 with “Gimme Some Lovin’ ” and “I’m a Man,” both featuring Steve Winwood on vocals. Later that year, Winwood left the group to form Traffic. Meisner was the original bass player in both Poco and the Eagles. Meisner’s song “Take It to the Limit” was featured on the “One of These Nights” album. Laine, along with Mike Pinder, founded the Moody Blues in 1965. The band’s second release, “Go Now,” hit No. 1 in both the U.S. and U.K. Laine left the Moody Blues in 1966 and later worked with Paul McCartney in Wings for 10 albums during the 1970s.

The Valley Cultural Center presents the Doo Wah Riders on Sunday in Woodland Hills. The popular, locally based band specializes in covers and original, modern country music.
