* Eastman Kodak Co. said second-quarter profit rose 4.5% to $513 million, or $1.65 a share, in line with forecasts, as sales rose 3.9% to $3.75 billion. The photography giant said sales of consumer film rose, but its share of the U.S. market declined 1%. The company benefited from narrowing losses in its digital photography business.

* Prodigy Communications Corp. said its second-quarter loss widened to $38.9 million, or 59 cents a share, from $11.4 million, or 19 cents a year ago, as expenses soared. Analysts expected a much deeper loss of 70 cents. Sales climbed to $86.6 million from $37.1 million as the number of Internet subscribers Prodigy manages more than tripled to 2.6 million.

* Washington Post Co. said second-quarter earnings fell 39% to $41.2 million, or $4.33 a share, well below forecasts of $5.70, as the publisher increased spending for its Kaplan education unit and Internet operations. Sales rose 6% to $591.5 million.
