*** Wiskey Biscuit, “Santa Ana River Delta Blues,” Shipwrecords.com. The recording is low-budget, but this L.A. band has created an intriguing blend of Stones-y swagger, ‘60s country-rock, early punk and post-punk held together by singer-songwriter Jason Mason’s adaptable nasal sneer. Similarly, his plain-spoken poetry works equally well on quirky anthems (“I Like Sleeping”), moody rock (“Out of the Dark”) and pensive laments (“Fallin’ on Your Face”). Accordion, lap steel and slide guitar add to the variety of sonic textures, making this more than your basic garage-rock. Still, the players exude a chaotic glee that makes you want to hear them live. They play tonight at the Dragonfly.
