WASHINGTON —
Eight states under siege from a heat wave that has killed 24 people will receive federal emergency aid to help with air conditioning costs, the Clinton administration announced Tuesday.
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas will share $35 million from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The money can be used to pay cooling bills or provide other means of assistance for low-income families.
