AOL Leads Mexican Internet Push: America Online Inc.’s Mexican arm launched a financing program to help people buy personal computers and get on the Internet. AOL will be joined in the program by Compaq Computer Corp. and Mexican banking group Banamex Accival. There are only an estimated five PCs per 100 people in Mexico, and fewer than three in 100 Mexicans use the Internet. Compaq will provide its Presario 7476 model for AOL’s program, and Banamex will offer two-year fixed financing. AOL will provide the Internet service.
