The Boys and Girls Club on Wednesday received a $100,000 donation from Microsoft Corp. as part of the company’s counterfeit software education program.

To dramatize the fight against pirated equipment, a monster truck was used to demolish about 40,000 CDs piled up on the street outside the club.

Microsoft plans to donate half of the money it won in a court settlement with software pirates--an estimated $25 million--to nonprofit organizations. The company has pledged an additional $200,000 to the Boys and Girls Club.

The club’s Executive Director Monique Lawee said the money will be used to help build a learning center and upgrade facilities.
