Youth, 16, Sentenced in Killing of U.S. Teens

A Costa Rican teenager was sentenced to 14 1/2 years in prison for his role in killing two American women. The 16-year-old was convicted of murder and aggravated robbery in the deaths of Emily Eagen of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Emily Howell of Lexington, Ky., both 19. Their bodies were found March 13 near Cahuita, 120 miles southeast of San Jose, the capital. Both had been shot. The sentence was announced in Limon. Costa Rican law bars the release of the defendant’s name because of his age.
