Kofax Image Products co-founder David S. Silver will step down as president and chief executive officer on July 31 to pursue new opportunities, the Irvine company said Thursday.

Kofax, which supplies document imaging software and scanner enhancement products, was acquired in October by an investment group that included a British holding company, Dicom Group, and Dresdner Bank AG.

Silver, who founded Kofax in 1985 and took the company public in 1997, will be succeeded by Arnold von Buren, former deputy chief executive officer of Dicom. Silver will retain his seat on Dicom’s board of directors.
