Female Anchors

* Because it’s about show business, The Times gives front-page space to the otherwise back-page story, “Female Anchors on Local TV Paid 28% Less” (June 1). What is overlooked is that the reason for this wage disparity is the same reason for the front-page coverage: show business. Entertainers are paid on the basis of their popularity, their “draw,” and it’s an established fact that radio and TV audiences prefer male broadcasters, which is why they’re paid more. Gender has nothing to do with discrimination when it comes to show business. One’s ability to attract an audience is what counts.
