Sabbath Gentile
The June 2 article, “Laboring to Meet Letter of the Law,” brought back memories of my boyhood in Miami, in what is now known as Little Havana. I did not know I had a title, “Sabbath Gentile,” but I cheerfully helped our neighbor, Rabbi Coleman and his wife, open letters, turn out lights, pick up broken glass, etc. until I left for the Navy in 1943. I was paid only in smiles and thank-yous; but it was an enriching experience.
