City and school officials will meet June 21 to discuss whether to reestablish a school at McFadden Park, a former elementary campus in the city’s south side.

The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District has been interested in building a school in the La Jolla neighborhood of Placentia for two years and has looked at several other locations but found none suitable for a school. The McFadden site was used as a school from the 1920s until 1979, when it was closed because of low enrollment. It is now used as a community park and the local Head Start preschool program.

Council members said they think the study session will be beneficial to both parties, but some are still not sure whether a school at McFadden would be good for the community.

“La Jolla is the only area in the city with no nearby elementary school,” Councilman Norman Z. Eckenrode said, “but we really can’t do away with the park and the Headstart program.”
