For Dad, Another Tie or a Home Theater?

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

We all are beholden to our wonderful dads, and one way we can show them our appreciation Sunday is with a home theater system.

If you’re willing to make a trip to Santa Fe Springs, the Kenwood Factory Outlet can save you a lot of money.

The inventory is made up of close-outs, reconditioned models and overstocks returned from major retailers.

The close-outs are generally models from previous seasons. Some on the floor are from last year, and the price tags reflect huge reductions.

Most of the inventory is current, such as a VR-3100A Dolby digital model with DTS surround sound, a high-end home theater receiver that retails for $1,750. The outlet’s hot price is $699.95, and the merchandise is still in the box.

If that’s more than the budget will allow, an HTB-502 Home Theatre contains the VR-309 receiver with 100 watt times five and a powered sub-woofer, for a total of six speakers and speaker wires. It retails for $600 but sells here for $369.97.

For an even less-expensive gift, there’s a CD-223, a 200-disc CD changer that sells for $230 elsewhere but $99.97 here.

The great deals you would expect to find at an outlet are definitely worth the drive. The reconditioned models come with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.

Kenwood Factory Outlet Store, 14134 Firestone Blvd., Santa Fe Springs. Hours: Wednesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (562) 921-3431.

Weekend Supersale: A summer clearance is starting Saturday at the French Hen, where Gallic touches are on just about everything, be it accessories or furniture.

They are taking 50% off their already low prices on selected pieces. A wicker breakfast table from the 1920s with flowers hand-painted on the top would probably run about $1,000 at many stores, but here the price is $250.

We loved the French settee in a peau de soie that is down to $375.

The French Hen, 21910 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills. (818) 704-6489.
