Rosemary F. Roland; Former Cartoonist

Rosemary F. “Penny” Roland, a former cartoonist and co-owner of a yarn shop, died June 5 at her home in Ojai after a battle with cancer. She was 75.

She was born July 21, 1924, in Los Angeles and moved to Ojai in 1966.

Roland was a homemaker and co-owned the Ojai Yarn Shop with her sister, Jonelle. She also had been a cartoonist who worked for Walter Lantz, creator of Woody Woodpecker.

She was a member of the Altrusa Club, the Pink Ladies of the Ojai Valley Hospital, the Bridge Club, the American Junior Bowling Club and the Women Veterans Memorial Society for World War II Veterans.

Roland was preceded in death by a son, Jeff.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine Lefebvre of Oak View; two sons, Scott C. Roland and Bruce D. Roland of Ojai; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 24 at the Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai, with the Rev. Larry Skinner officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ojai.
