Murder Suspect Picked Up Checks of Missing Women

An accused serial killer charged with murdering five women frequently picked up checks from a Kansas mail center addressed to two former Fullerton residents who kept a post office box there, the center’s owner said Saturday.

Sheila Dale Faith, who would now be 51, and her daughter, Debbie Lynn Faith, who would be 21, vanished five years ago, and police in Kansas said last week they fear the pair may be victims of John Edward Robinson Sr.

Investigators have said the women had “known connections” to Robinson and maintained a post office box in his hometown of Olathe, Kan. But they declined to elaborate, citing a judge’s gag order in the case. Police declined to comment further on Saturday.

Randy Davis, who owns the Mailroom mail box center in Olathe, said he remembers Sheila Faith coming to his business several years ago to collect her mail. But more recently, he said, Robinson arrived monthly to pick up Faith’s mail, including what appeared to be government checks. Davis said Robinson continued the practice until last month, when he was arrested.

“He was in here every start of the month, when the checks came in,” Davis said. “He was like any other customer. He made small talk. He’d talk about the weather.”

When he saw pictures of Robinson on the television news, Davis said, he “immediately made the connection” with the Faiths’ mailbox. “It hit me right then. My mouth just dropped open.”

Robinson, 56, has been charged with murdering five women in Kansas and Missouri.

Robinson also has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery. Authorities say he trolled the Internet for sex under the name “slavemaster,” and may have met some of his victims online.

Robinson has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police believe the Faiths are among six people linked to Robinson who have been missing for years.

The case began June 3, when authorities discovered the bodies of two women in barrels on property Robinson owns near La Cygne, Kan.

Two days later, three more bodies were found in barrels in a Raymore, Mo., storage locker, just east of Kansas City and about 40 miles from La Cygne.

Until 1994, Sheila and Debbie Faith lived in a large apartment complex on Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton before moving to Colorado. Family members told police they last heard from Sheila Faith that year when she said she was moving to the Kansas-Oklahoma area.

One neighbor in Fullerton remembered them as a tight-knit family who rarely ventured from their two-bedroom apartment. Debbie Lynn Faith was developmentally disabled and used a wheelchair.

Police said they have not found the bodies of the women and aren’t sure they are dead. But the Faiths are among several missing women whose last known addresses are post office boxes in Olathe.

‘We’re concerned about them,” said Sgt. Rick Roth, a member of the Lenexa, Kan.-based task force probing the slayings, in an interview last week. “Their tie with John Robinson would lead anyone to be worried for their safety and welfare.”

Davis said the matter has left him shaken. He said he recognized Robinson even though the murder suspect had used the name “Jim Turner” when collecting mail.

“I’m going to be way more suspicious of people than ever before,” Davis said.
