Test Set for Wireless Net-Access Technology

Share

ArrayComm Inc. will conduct a large-scale commercial test of its i-Burst wireless Internet-access technology in San Diego beginning in mid-2001 under an experimental license granted by the Federal Communications Commission this month.

The closely held San Jose firm specializes in “smart antenna” technologies that help wireless companies use their limited radio frequencies more efficiently. ArrayComm says its i-Burst portable wireless system can give customers an always-on Internet connection capable of carrying data at speeds of more than 1 megabit per second--even when the system is at full capacity.

The company also recently announced partnerships with network equipment maker Redback Networks and with Sony Corp., which hopes to use the i-Burst technology in laptop and hand-held computers as well as in gaming devices.
