EMachines Sounds a Warning: EMachines Inc., a maker of personal computers that cost as little as $399, said it expects to report a fiscal second-quarter loss on lower consumer demand for PCs, sending its shares plunging. Irvine-based EMachines, which first offered shares at $9 each in March, saw its shares plunge $1.08 to close at $2.61 in Nasdaq trading. The company said it will lose 30 to 33 cents a share, excluding amortization and noncash, stock-based compensation, for the quarter ending July 1. Analysts had expected the company to lose a penny a share. The company expects revenue of $115 million to $125 million. It had revenue of $249.8 million for the first quarter and a profit of a penny a share. EMachines expects to report second-quarter results July 26.
