LAGUNA HILLS

The city’s new skate park near Laguna Hills High School off Paseo de Valencia opened this week with both cheers and jeers from skateboarders and in-line skaters.

The young skaters rushed in groups to try out the gray and pink park, which opened about four months late. But many gave a “thumbs down” to the sign posted at the entrance requiring all skaters to wear a helmet and pads on their elbows and knees or face a possible citation by the city.

A free opening celebration will be held at the park July 1 with skateboarding demonstrations, music and vendors. Information: (949) 707-2600.
