More Support for Barbara Harris: Love, Courage and ‘Guts’

Share

What Barbara Harris (“Mom in the Middle,” by Sharon Bernstein, May 14) is doing is one of the most courageous and intelligent acts I’ve seen in a long time. Instead of sitting on the edge of their seats expecting an ethnic slur at every turn, people should deal with reality.

Dear Barbara Harris:

As an African American, I admire you and love you. But I’m also angry at you for allowing a few media-seeking idiots such as Earl Ofari Hutchinson, Gene Collins and Rocio Cordoba to force you to make changes in your approach. Please don’t ever for a moment forget your focus--the babies. Let the critics talk. They love talking. But you, Barbara Harris, are the only one doing the talking and the walking.

The people who call you are responding to your billboard message. Isn’t this their personal and private choice too?

Just keep on doing what you’re doing and tell your volunteers to hang in there with you, because what you’re doing is the right thing for some women. I am so impressed with your guts and compassion. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
