Joshua Myron; Fought in Zionist Brigade

Joshua Myron, 102, one of the last of a camel-mounted Zionist brigade that fought against Turkey in Palestine during World War I. Myron fought alongside Vladimir Jabotinsky, then a Russian journalist, who spread the idea of forming a Jewish brigade to fight beside the British. The British Army unit used camels to move from front to front. Myron was born in 1897 in Rishon Lezion, the first officially Zionist settlement in Palestine. He devoted his life first to fighting for a Jewish homeland and later to supporting Israel after its establishment in 1948. He continued to raise money for Israel even after he moved to New York.
