* Crown Cork & Seal Co., the largest maker of metal food cans, will fire 1,150 employees and warned of lower second-quarter profit because of higher costs for raw materials, pricing competition and slowing sales. Second-quarter profit will be about 50 cents a share, the Philadelphia-based company said, well below the 73-cent average estimate of analysts. Crown will take a second-quarter charge of $58 million, or 46 cents.
