Toyota Supercharges Its Aftermarket Parts
Toyota Racing Development, the auto maker’s Tustin-based aftermarket parts house, has launched a new line of high-performance equipment.
The initial offerings in the Kazuma line--the name is derived from an ancient Japanese term for the winner of a chariot race--are a series of 3.0-liter superchargers for Toyota’s V-6 Camry sedan, Camry Solara coupe and Sienna minivan.
Sales began Monday through traditional performance equipment retailers, TRD’s catalog and its Internet site, https://www.trdusa.com.
The superchargers are designed to boost horsepower and torque by more than 30% in the street-legal configuration. They provide 276 horsepower--up from 206 in the stock engine--and 271 foot-pounds of torque, up from 209. Prices range from $3,500 to $3,800.
And next week the new line will begin marketing a $4,500 street-legal supercharger for the 4.5-liter inline-6 engine used in Toyota’s Land Cruiser sport-utility vehicle.
Products to boost engine performance of other Toyota models are expected to follow in coming months, said Mary Harden, TRD’s marketing administrator, in announcing the line last week.
Kazuma will augment TRD’s existing Sport Parts line of appearance, styling and handling equipment. Sport Parts products, ranging from colored enamel Japanese-market badges for various Toyota models to sophisticated suspension kits, are available through Toyota dealers.
Parts for Toyota’s redesigned 2000 Celica models fill four pages of the Sport Parts catalog and include a suspension and handling kit, a horsepower-boosting exhaust kit, high-performance brake pads and a limited-slip differential.
