The old “Brea welcomes you” sign is on its way back to Birch Street, but not without some changes. It will blend into the new downtown cityscape with bright neon--and a rotating base.

Last week, the City Council gave the green light to city architect Nate Cherry to draft the finishing touches on a plan to position the sign and plant trees around it. Officials expect the plan to be completed in about two years.

Cherry told the council about his vision of a “civic layer” to the downtown, where the welcome sign would greet visitors and the “Good Old Brea” clock would be installed on the west end of the Promenade.
