Good Buys Cooking on Appliances in Burbank

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A good source for both new and reconditioned major appliances is Sav-On Appliances in Burbank. Owner Emmett Julian purchases new appliances, some with cosmetic flaws and some returns from one of the nation’s largest retailers.

A Frigidaire washer and dryer, stackable or side by side, runs about $1,300 at many stores, but because of a slight ding were priced at $850. A Maytag side-by-side refrigerator with water and ice, usually an expensive setup, is $850, not the $1,200 to $1,500 elsewhere. New items carry a full one-year warranty.

Used appliances have been reconditioned by Julian’s crew, and for those on a tight budget, this is the way to go. The appliances carry a 90-day warranty with one year free service. Local delivery and hookup are included, except for installation of dishwashers.

Some of the better deals in the reconditioned models were a Hotpoint washer and dryer set for $350; a Hotpoint refrigerator with top freezer for $269; and a Tappan range for $189.
